CHRISTMAS
Every Christmas, Weymouth comes alive with a wonderfully unique tradition: the Christmas Harbour Swim. Organised by the Weymouth & Portland Lions Club, around 250 brave swimmers plunge into the chilly harbour waters on Christmas morning. Spectators line the harbour cheering, many in festive fancy dress — you’ll struggle to see more Father Christmases in bathing suits anywhere else!
The event began in 1947 as a light-hearted dare by two pub landlords and has since become a celebrated local tradition. Participation requires pre-registration, but it’s a fun, festive, and unforgettable way to kick off Christmas in Weymouth.
